South West Junior Hockey Championships is a 3 Day event organised by Bunbury Hockey Association, catering for gender specific age groups. Also known as the Bunbury Carnival, it includes regional teams from as far as Esperance, along with teams from metro clubs like Wolves, UWA, YMCC and Vic Park.
Teams can play up to 8 games over the weekend, consisting of 2 x 15-minute halves, played on both grass & turf, finishing with crossover &/or finals games on the last day (Monday).
We are calling for registrations for all players in 5/6, 7/8 and 9/10 who are interested in attending.
There are 2 divisions – Championship and Carnival – so depending on the number of interested players in each age group we hope to nominate at least one team per age group in each division. If there are lots of players interested, we may nominate more than one team in each division.
The decision on number of teams and which division they are entered in will be made by the club once the numbers of players – and importantly parent volunteer coaches – are known.
You will need to organise your own accommodation – it can work well to get a few large houses that are in a similar area and share the experience (and cost) amongst your team. Games usually start early on Saturday morning so you should plan on driving down on Friday and staying the night.
Whilst we will make every effort to take everyone who registers, it is possible that we might be short of numbers for a particular age group or division (or have too many for a particular team) – therefore we cannot guarantee a place. We may need to select appropriate players for teams, so while registering early is strongly encouraged it is not simply a case of first in best dressed.
It's a great event - everyone who has gone previously has had a great time. It will be great to see lots of blue Hale shirts running around!
